TEACHERS

A regular team of experienced teachers is in attendance each day to give a teacher-to-student ratio of 1 to 4.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for the training course should be of good health, character and education, and should have had a reasonable number of Alexander lessons.

Candidates are personally interviewed by the Director and, if the candidate is admitted to the course, the first term is regarded as probationary. The student is at liberty to withdraw during this probationary term, or the directors may request withdrawal at the end of the term if unsuitability for training is indicated. Thereafter a full term’s notice of withdrawal is required.

Students are required to pay each term’s fees in full during the first week of the term.

Satisfactory completion of the training course leads to the Certificate of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. It is a requirement of the Society that students take student membership at the beginning of the course. There is a subscription for this, which includes the cost of the moderation process, which is carried out, usually during the 6th and 9th terms, by one of the Society’s Moderators.

COURSE TIMETABLE

A 3-year course; each year to consist of three ten-week terms per year (Autumn, Spring, Summer), each with a mid-term break.

Mondays to Fridays, 10.00 am - 1.30 pm.

Minimum study time of 1600 hours to meet the regulations of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.

FEES

The fees are currently £1,500 per term and are subject to review if costs demand.

PRACTICAL COURSE WORK

The application of the principles as laid down in the writings of F. M. Alexander.

The application of inhibition, direction and primary control towards improving the use of the self.

Instruction in the use of hands in teaching.

THEORY

The writings of F. M. Alexander and other relevant works. A study of anatomy, physiology, and postural reflexes.

QUALIFICATION

Successful candidates receive the teaching certificate of the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique which will entitle them to become members of STAT and (subject to payment of annual membership fees) to use the designation "MSTAT".
